Jokhang Temple

Located in the heart of Lhasa, Jokhang Temple is the most sacred and important pilgrimage site in Tibetan Buddhism. Originally built in the 7th century by King Songtsen Gampo, the temple houses a revered life-sized statue of the 12-year-old Buddha (Jowo Shakyamuni), considered the holiest object in Tibet. Every day, you’ll see devoted pilgrims prostrating outside and walking around the Barkhor Circuit that encircles the temple. The architecture blends Indian, Nepalese, and Tibetan styles, offering a deeply spiritual and cultural experience for visitors.

Sera Monastery

Sera Monastery, located at the foot of a mountain on the outskirts of Lhasa, is one of Tibet’s three great Gelug university monasteries. Founded in the 15th century, it is best known for its unique Buddhist debating sessions, where monks in red robes energetically challenge each other with claps and gestures—an engaging and theatrical tradition open to visitors in the afternoon. The monastery is also home to sacred scriptures, ancient murals, and peaceful courtyards, offering a glimpse into monastic life and Tibetan philosophical teachings.

Potala Palace

The iconic Potala Palace is Tibet’s most famous landmark, standing majestically over Lhasa. Once the winter residence of the Dalai Lama, this grand palace is a masterpiece of Tibetan architecture, rising over 13 stories with over 1,000 rooms. Zaki Temple
