Clothing & Travel Tips for Western Sichuan (June–September)

👀 Western Sichuan refers to Ganzi Prefecture (toward Daocheng Yading) and Aba Prefecture (toward Jiuzhaigou).
‼ These areas are part of the Sichuan Plateau, with altitudes ranging from 1,900 to 4,700 meters.

How to Prevent or Ease Altitude Sickness?

    1. Oral Glucose Solution – A must-have! Drink it on an empty stomach in the morning and evening, starting from Day 1 of your trip.

    2. Thermos Bottle – Bring one and drink plenty of hot water throughout the day.

    3. Avoid physical strain – No running, jumping, emotional outbursts, or sudden squatting/sitting. Stand and rest with slight support when tired.

    🧥 What to Wear?

    👉 June & September:

    • In addition to regular clothing for the local area:

      1. Bring a fleece-lined windbreaker or a lightweight long down jacket

      2. Pack thick long pants

      3. Don’t forget a light scarf, a warm hat, sunscreen, a rain poncho, and comfortable non-slip walking shoes

    👉 July & August:

    • In addition to regular clothing for the local area:

      1. Bring a thicker spring/autumn windbreaker or a long outer layer

      2. Wear long pants

      3. Use sunscreen and protect against strong plateau winds

    😎 Accessories Checklist:

    • Sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, lip balm – essential for sun and wind protection

    • Umbrella or raincoat – weather can change quickly in the mountains

Avoid Travel During Chinese Public Holidays:

    • New Year's Day: January 1

    • Spring Festival (Chinese New Year): January 28 – February 4

    • Valentine’s Day: February 14

    • Qingming Festival: April 4 – April 6

    • Labor Day: May 1 – May 5
