-
Altitude Sickness & Cold-Weather Preparation:
Travelers should prepare oxygen supplies and medications to prevent or treat acute altitude sickness, such as Nifedipine (also known as Adalat) and Aminophylline. It’s also recommended to bring medicines for colds, antibiotics, and vitamins as a precaution.
Due to the plateau's cold climate and significant temperature differences between day and night, please bring adequate warm clothing to prevent catching a cold. Cold weather and respiratory infections can both trigger altitude sickness. -
If You Experience Symptoms of Altitude Sickness:
Should serious symptoms appear while ascending to high altitudes, take Aminophylline immediately or place 20mg of Nifedipine under the tongue. In severe cases, oxygen inhalation is required. If you experience extreme chest tightness, persistent coughing, shortness of breath, pink frothy sputum, sluggish reactions, confusion, or even coma, seek emergency treatment at the nearest hospital or immediately transfer to a lower altitude for recovery. -
Seek Medical Attention Promptly:
If symptoms worsen, especially during rest, you should inhale oxygen and see a doctor immediately. In rare cases of high-altitude pulmonary or cerebral edema, the patient must receive high-flow oxygen, be treated with medication, and be transferred as quickly as possible to a lower altitude.
