3-Day Itinerary
+Day 1: Giant Pandas & Traditional Chinese Medicine
Your guide will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. We recommend booking your tickets in advance and arriving early for the best chance to see pandas during their most active hours—eating and playing. Don’t miss the Moonlight Nursery and the Panda Kindergarten.
Lunch:
Enjoy a self-paid lunch at a nearby restaurant. Try local Sichuan favorites like Twice-Cooked Pork (Huí Guō Ròu) or the spicy Mapo Tofu.
Afternoon:
Visit a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) center, where you’ll find ancient herb walls and historic apothecaries. Experience the cultural atmosphere of TCM, and optionally enjoy a self-paid acupuncture session. You can also have a custom herbal prescription prepared to sample the “bitter medicine that heals.”
Next, head to Wenshu Monastery, a peaceful Buddhist temple known for its classic red walls and gray tiles. Soak in the serenity and cultural ambiance.
Evening:
For dinner, head to Zhaojue Alley or return to downtown Chengdu to enjoy an authentic Sichuan hot pot. Choose your spice level and dive into a flavorful local experience.
+ Day 2: Dujiangyan Irrigation System & Panda Valley
Depart from Chengdu city and head to Yangtianwo Plaza to snap photos with the giant panda statue. Then visit Panda Valley, a lesser-known conservation area where panda cubs undergo wilderness training. It’s best to arrive early when the pandas are more active.
Lunch:
Have lunch at a local restaurant near Panda Valley. We recommend trying regional specialties like Qingcheng-style cured pork ribs.
Afternoon:
Continue to the Dujiangyan Irrigation System, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enter through Gate 6 for the best route. Visit Qinyan Tower for panoramic views, then explore the Erwang Temple to learn about the system’s ancient history. Walk across the Anlan Suspension Bridge and visit key sites like the Fish Mouth Weir, Flying Sand Weir, and Bottle-Neck Channel. Exit the park through the Lidui Park South Gate.
Evening:
Head to Nanqiao Bridge to enjoy the illuminated nightscape, including the enchanting “Blue Tears” lighting effect. Grab dinner or snacks at a nearby food street—try local street foods like spicy rabbit heads or green onion pork rolls.
+ Day 3: Chengdu City Highlights
Start your day at Du Fu Thatched Cottage, the former residence of the great Tang Dynasty poet. Walk along Huanhua Creek, explore bamboo gardens and traditional cottages, and feel the harmony of poetry and nature.
Lunch:
Enjoy a self-paid lunch near the site. Try lighter Sichuan dishes like Boiled Cabbage in Plain Broth or Chickpea Tofu Soup.
Afternoon:
Head to Wide and Narrow Alleys (Kuan & Zhai Xiangzi), a historic pedestrian area. Wander through Qing Dynasty courtyards, browse trendy boutiques, and try snacks like Zhong-style dumplings or sweet rice balls. Continue to Wuhou Shrine, dedicated to Zhuge Liang of the Three Kingdoms era, and admire the red walls and bamboo shadows. Just next door is Jinli Ancient Street, a lively area filled with traditional architecture, street performances, and local treats like candied rice balls and San Da Pao (Three Big Cannonballs).
Evening (Free Time):
Wrap up your trip at Chunxi Road and Taikoo Li, Chengdu’s modern shopping and entertainment hubs. Don't forget to take a selfie with the IFS Climbing Panda. Unwind at a nearby teahouse to enjoy the laid-back Chengdu lifestyle. If you're up for more, head to Jiuyanqiao Bridge—stroll along the river, admire Anshun Bridge lit up at night, explore the bar street, or take a gondola-style boat ride down the Jinjiang River for a romantic night cruise.
