2-Day Itinerary

+ Day 1: Panda Base – Dujiangyan Scenic Area

Morning:
Your guide will pick you up from your hotel and head to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. It’s best to arrive early, as pandas are most active in the morning. Start with the Sun and Moon Delivery Rooms, where you can see adorable panda cubs. Then continue to the adult and juvenile panda enclosures to observe their playful behavior and daily routines up close. On your way through the base, you’ll also pass by Swan Lake.
Lunch:
Enjoy lunch at a nearby local restaurant (at your own expense). You can try some classic Sichuan dishes such as twice-cooked pork or mapo tofu.
Afternoon:
Drive to the city of Dujiangyan. Upon arrival, head to the Dujiangyan Irrigation System Scenic Area. Enter through Lidui Park to visit important landmarks such as Yuzui (Fish Mouth Levee), Feishayan (Spillway), and Baopingkou (Water Inlet) — the core components of this ancient irrigation system. Learn about its brilliant engineering and the historical figures behind it. Walk across the Anlan Suspension Bridge to reach the other side of the river, where you can explore Qin Yan Tower and the Erwang Temple (Temple of the Two Kings). For panoramic views of the city and the irrigation system, you can take the escalator up to Yulei Pavilion (ticket not included).
Evening:
Stroll around the Nanqiao (South Bridge) area in Dujiangyan. Admire its intricate wooden carvings and colorful paintings. The bridge is especially beautiful at night when it’s lit up. You’ll also find a bustling food street nearby — a perfect spot to try some local snacks (at your own expense), like Zhaolei-style beef soup, tofu rice, crispy potatoes, San Da Pao (sweet rice balls), and leaf-wrapped sticky rice cakes.
Hotel: Dujiangyan City

+ Day 2: Mount Qingcheng-Chengdu

Morning:
After breakfast, head to Mount Qingcheng, one of the birthplaces of Taoism in China. If you're up for a hike, you can enter through the main gate and climb by foot, passing sights like Yuting Pavilion, Tiannange Pavilion, Yilewo Pavilion, Yinsheng Pavilion, and the beautifully crafted Ten Corners Pavilion. Keep going through Shanyin Pavilion and Ningcui Bridge to reach Tianshi Cave, the legendary retreat of Taoist founder Zhang Daoling.
If you'd prefer a more relaxed journey, you can take a boat ride across Yuecheng Lake and ride the cable car up the mountain (optional and at your own expense). From there, visit Shangqing Palace and, depending on your energy level, consider continuing to the highest peak for a sweeping view of the 36 peaks of Qingcheng.
Lunch:
Enjoy a countryside-style lunch at a restaurant in or near the scenic area (at your own expense). Recommended dishes include smoked pork and ginkgo chicken soup.
Afternoon:
Continue exploring Mount Qingcheng’s tranquil trails, scenic spots, and Taoist temples. Soak in the mountain’s serene atmosphere, often described as “the most secluded under heaven.” After your visit, return to Chengdu.

Tour 'Wow' Points

The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding

The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is the largest giant panda breeding research institution in the world and the best place to observe these national treasures. The base boasts a beautiful ecological environment with lush greenery, making it a comprehensive attraction that integrates research, education, tourism, and conservation. Here, you can closely observe the adorable antics of giant pandas, from munching on bamboo and climbing trees to rolling around, all of which will bring a smile to your face. In addition to the pandas, the base features a specialized science education area, allowing visitors to learn about their habits and conservation knowledge while enjoying the charming pandas. There's also a special “Panda Encounter” experience, where you can meet the celebrity panda "Hua Hua."

Dujiangyan

Located in the western part of Chengdu Plain, in the city of Dujiangyan, Sichuan Province, this ancient water conservancy project sits on the Minjiang River. It was originally constructed during the late Qin Dynasty under the command of Governor Li Bing and his son, who built it based on earlier works by the legendary figure Bie Ling. The Dujiangyan system, which includes the Fish Mouth, Flying Sand Weir, and Baopingkou, is the world’s oldest and largest water engineering project still in use today. Notably, it is unique for its ability to divert water without the use of dams.

Mount Qingcheng

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, a National 5A Tourist Attraction, and the global headquarters of Taoism, Mount Qingcheng is one of China’s Four Great Taoist Mountains and one of the Five Great Immortal Mountains. It is also one of the birthplaces of Taoism in China. The mountain is divided into the Front Mountain and the Rear Mountain, both of which are covered in lush greenery and remain verdant throughout the year. Surrounded by numerous peaks that resemble city walls, it is aptly named Qingcheng, meaning “Green City Mountain.”

The mountain features thousands of steps and winding paths, offering an atmosphere of serenity and purity. With peaks encircling the area and dense, verdant forests, Mount Qingcheng is renowned for its tranquil beauty and is often described as “the most peaceful place under heaven.”
