1-Day Itinerary

+ Day 1: Chengdu – Giant Panda Breeding Base – Leshan Giant Buddha (By Boat or on Foot) – End of Tour in Chengdu

08:00 – Depart from Chengdu. Please arrive at the designated meeting point on time. Your guide will be waiting for you there.
09:30 – Arrive at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, located in the lush hills of northern Chengdu (Futoushan area). Follow the winding paths through the green bamboo groves as you meet adorable pandas in their naturalistic enclosures.
You may see them:
– Leisurely munching on fresh bamboo, unaware of the leaves clinging to their round bellies;
– Lounging lazily on wooden platforms, basking in the sunlight with their chubby paws outstretched;
– Or playfully rolling around on the grass like fluffy black-and-white pom-poms, delighting every onlooker.
This is part of China’s Ex-Situ Conservation Project for Giant Pandas, focused on the protection and breeding of endangered species like the giant panda and red panda.
11:30 – Depart the Panda Base and enjoy a local lunch. After lunch, drive to Leshan.
14:30 – Arrive at Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area. Board a sightseeing boat to view the Buddha from the river – a truly unique way to appreciate this ancient masterpiece where nature and culture meet.
Cruising along the Min River, with the breeze on your face and the ripples glistening around you, the colossal Buddha slowly comes into view. Carved directly into the cliffside and standing at 71 meters tall, this is the largest stone Buddha statue in the world. Facing the river, it has watched over the waters for centuries. From the boat, you’ll enjoy a full panoramic view — from its serene expression and dignified posture to the intricate details of its robes.
Along the way, enjoy scenic views of riverside greenery, distant mountains, and birds flying overhead — a picture-perfect harmony of landscape and spirituality.
Note: The boat tour is a relaxing way to view the full statue without climbing. You might even spot the "sleeping Buddha" hidden in the mountain formations. However, boat operations are subject to river conditions such as water level and wind. If the boat tour is unavailable, it will be replaced with a walking tour up the mountain for individual exploration.
16:00 – Depart Leshan and return to Chengdu by vehicle.
18:30 – Arrive back in Chengdu. End of the day’s journey.
Kind Reminders:
The above schedule is for reference only. Timings may change depending on the season, actual conditions on the day, or unforeseen circumstances.
If you plan to take a train after the tour, please book a departure time at least 3 hours later.
Same-day flight departures are not recommended.
Inside the Leshan Scenic Area, you may encounter locals offering incense for prayers, photo services near the Buddha, or tea by the roadside. There are also shops selling local specialties and Buddhist souvenirs — including at places like the Foyuan Hall, Ecological Garden, etc.
Please note: These vendors are part of the scenic area’s commercial operations and are not designated tourist shopping locations regulated by the Tourism Bureau.
