1-Day Itinerary
+ Day 1: Chengdu – Leshan Giant Buddha – Huanglongxi Ancient Town – Drop-off in Chengdu
09:30 – Arrive at the Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area. Enjoy a boat ride to view the Leshan Giant Buddha – a magical journey that bridges past and present, blending natural beauty with cultural heritage. As the boat gently cruises along the Min River, the towering figure of the Buddha slowly comes into view. Standing at 71 meters (233 feet) tall, this is the largest stone-carved Buddha in the world. Carved into the cliffside, facing the river, the Buddha’s serene expression, dignified posture, and intricately detailed robes are truly breathtaking.
From the water, you can take in the full view of this monumental statue – a sight that's both peaceful and awe-inspiring. Along the way, you’ll also enjoy scenic landscapes of lush trees, rolling hills, and birds gliding over the water, creating a picture-perfect moment of harmony between nature and culture.
Note: The boat tour allows for a relaxed visit without uphill walking and provides a panoramic view of the Buddha, including the “hidden sleeping Buddha” (depending on water levels and weather conditions, boat tours may be canceled. In such cases, the itinerary will be adjusted to a walking tour of the Buddha instead).
11:30 – Depart from the Leshan Giant Buddha and enjoy a traditional Sichuan-style lunch.
14:30 – Arrive at Huanglongxi Ancient Town. Often described as a dazzling gem of the Chengdu Plain, Huanglongxi exudes ancient charm and cultural richness. With a history of over 2,100 years, it was once the last military stronghold of the ancient Shu Kingdom and witnessed the final battles of the last Shu king.
During the Three Kingdoms period, Zhuge Liang, Prime Minister of the Shu Han, stationed troops and prepared horses here for the southern campaigns. In later dynasties, the town flourished along the Southern Silk Road. Many Ming and Qing era buildings and folk traditions have been preserved, offering a deep dive into China's vibrant history and traditions.
16:00 – Return to Chengdu by vehicle.
17:30 – Arrive back in Chengdu and end the day’s journey.
Friendly Reminders:
The above schedule is for reference only. Timings may vary depending on the season, local traffic, and other unforeseen circumstances.
If you plan to take a train after the tour, we recommend booking one at least 3 hours after the tour ends. We do not recommend booking a flight on the same day.
Inside the Leshan scenic area, there may be worshippers offering incense or taking close-up photos with the Buddha. You’ll also find tea stalls and souvenir shops selling local specialties and religious items.
Please note that locations such as Foyuantang Religious Gift Shop and the Ecological Garden are scenic area facilities and not classified as designated tourist shopping venues by the tourism authority.
