1-Day Itinerary

+ Day 1: Chengdu – Panda Breeding Base – Sanxingdui Museum

08:00 – Depart from the designated meeting point in Chengdu. Your guide will be waiting to welcome you and assist with departure.
09:00 – Arrive at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, located in the northern suburbs of the city. Stroll along winding paths through lush bamboo groves, where you'll encounter adorable giant pandas: some leisurely munching on bamboo with leaves clinging to their round bellies, others lounging lazily on wooden platforms soaking in the morning sun, or playfully tumbling across the grass like fluffy black-and-white balls. This base is a national ecological demonstration project for the ex-situ conservation of giant pandas and other endangered wildlife native to China.
11:30 – Leave the panda base and enjoy a local lunch. Afterward, transfer by vehicle to Sanxingdui Museum.
14:30 – Arrive at the Sanxingdui Museum, home to one of the most significant archaeological discoveries in China. The Sanxingdui site dates back to the late Neolithic period through the early to middle Western Zhou Dynasty—approximately 4,800 to 2,800 years ago. The artifacts unearthed here represent the peak of Bronze Age craftsmanship and artistry. From intricately cast bronze masks and statues to finely carved jade and delicate gold objects, these treasures showcase the remarkable skill and imagination of the ancient Shu civilization. Sanxingdui is not only a treasure trove of Chinese culture, but also a vital piece of the puzzle in understanding the broader development of human civilization.
17:00 – Depart for Chengdu.
18:30 – Arrive back in Chengdu. End of the day’s tour.

Tour 'Wow' Points

Sanxingdui Museum

Tour the Sanxingdui site and explore its fascinating ancient civilization. Named after three large earth mounds that rise abruptly from the Chengdu Plain, Sanxingdui is a modern archaeological museum dedicated to the ancient Shu culture and one of the most important Bronze Age sites in southwestern China. The discovery of two massive sacrificial pits from the Shang dynasty revealed thousands of rare artifacts, including the Bronze Divine Tree, the Golden Staff, and the towering Bronze Standing Figure—many of which are unique in the world. These findings pushed back the timeline of the Shu civilization to 5,000 years ago and offer rich historical, scientific, artistic, and visual value. Here, you’ll experience the brilliance of ancient Shu culture and encounter the many mysteries that still surround Sanxingdui.

The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding

The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is the largest giant panda breeding research institution in the world and the best place to observe these national treasures. The base boasts a beautiful ecological environment with lush greenery, making it a comprehensive attraction that integrates research, education, tourism, and conservation. Here, you can closely observe the adorable antics of giant pandas, from munching on bamboo and climbing trees to rolling around, all of which will bring a smile to your face. In addition to the pandas, the base features a specialized science education area, allowing visitors to learn about their habits and conservation knowledge while enjoying the charming pandas. There's also a special “Panda Encounter” experience, where you can meet the celebrity panda "Hua Hua."
